A Note on Parashath Qorah
The common theme of this week’s parasha and this week’s haftarah: When the Jewish people have a proper, God-approved leader, they often do not give him the proper reverence, and even seek to replace him. Moses faced a number of insurrections, the most extreme one being the one described in our parasha. The people demanded that Samuel appoint a king to take charge instead of Samuel and his sons. David and Samuel faced a number of rebellions. Hezekiah had the minority of the people on his side when he refused to surrender to the Assyrians.
